I've been sick those last few days, so I decided not to go to university yesterday and today. The weather is absolutely horribly, miserably COLD, and there was no way I was going to get better as long as I went outside every day, even for ten minutes.
So, since I didn't have anything much to do, I was very procrastinative the first day (I think I watched something like 10 episodes of The Mentalist in as many hours...), but today I've been drawing! And since I was pretty happy with what I did I wanted to show it off.
Well, I'm going to show it off under the cut, since it contains a mild case of boobies and I don't want the people on my flist who have uptight bosses to lose their job because of me, but, you know. I was hoping that maybe that way more than three people would see it XD
I felt like drawing something warm and cute, because it's cold outside and I am tired of coughing my lungs out, so I went for it and drew my boyfriend a "pinup" (so to speak) of one of my RPG characters, Lucia. It's more cute than sexy, really, but I'm really happy with how it turned out, so.

Heh, that happened to me a couple weeks ago. It's a really great show for I-should-probably-be-doing-something-else marathons. ;)

Date: Feb. 9th, 2012 09:06 (UTC)Yeah, and it requires just enough attention that you can do something else while watching, but not something that requires too much attention XD So it's perfect for drawing or knitting on the side, but you can't really do your homework. (Well, I had a very good excuse for watching: I was sick! Mwahaha.)
I really love it so far, though I have to admit what with watching Castle and other stuff, I'm a bit tired of the straight-edge-female-cop / bunny-ears-lawyer partnership formula. It makes sense but... well, why not have a female bunny ears lawyer and a male straight-edge cop? Those must exist, right?
(Though note that it's the concept that I mind. So far I really like all members of the cast!)

Yes! I... usually play poker on my phone or something at the same time. I'm sure there's something more productive I could be doing!

Oh man, yes. That's in large part why I resisted watching the show for so long (also because I thought Jane was really supposed to be a psychic). For the opposite formula, all I can really think of is Bones, with its socially-awkward-female-scientist-helps-FBI-solve-crime formula, but IMO that show went waaaay off the rails a while back. And I suppose Rizzoli & Isles almost qualifies as completely breaking the trope by having both roles filled by women, if you want to stretch the definition of bunny-ears-lawyer to include "coroner who does a lot more hands-on crime-solving than most coroners". But yeah, I'm really sick of the genius-white-dude-solves-mysteries trope.
(Though note that it's the concept that I mind. So far I really like all members of the cast!)
Heh, same here! In spite of the above, and at least one plot arc that seriously pissed me off, I'm weirdly impressed by the way the show handles Jane's revenge arc (it's one of the few revenge stories I can think of that takes the "before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves" to heart and doesn't let the main character get away with glamorizing that ultimately self-destructive journey too much). Also, I particularly adore Lisbon and Hightower (if you're still early in the show, you may not have met her yet). And the fact that the show features a male character who is consistently shown to be terrified of violence directed at him hits some sort of storytelling kink I never knew I had. And I enjoy the fact that the show is weirdly good with continuity for a procedural. Lots of stuff I like! It's a fun show.

Date: Feb. 9th, 2012 14:52 (UTC)Yeah, exactly. As I said, I like Jane's character, but globally, it looks like every police procedural is about that kind of character and I find it rather tiresome. I'd honestly be even more interested if some of those were about someone else than a white man. (Actually, that's giving me some good writing ideas... Hmm. I'll have to take notes.) The Mentalist is a really good show, but with strong writing like that, it's a real shame that they didn't go with an at least slightly more daring premise. Ah, well, that's US television for you.
Overall, I really, really like Jane as a character. I'm almost at the end of the first season (I only have the season finale left to watch! Eek.) and the two character who stand out most for me are Jane and Cho (I love Cho's Mad Interrogation Skillz, yo.) Jane especially has that really warm and smooth exterior which hints all the more at really scary and cold hidden depths. I can't wait to see how this develops, honestly. I'm also glad that they don't always focus on serial-killer-type murders, which was what I feared when I started watching ^^;
*checks out Rizolli & Isles* Oooh, a show with a coroner who helps with investigations! I might like that, I think... I have a soft spot for coroners. I'll probably have a look then, there's a good chance that I might like it ^^

Date: Feb. 9th, 2012 23:17 (UTC)I'm finally all caught up on the show, and I'm really amused at having found a currently-airing show that doesn't seem on the verge of cancellation (I think the actors all signed contracts up to a seventh season? something like that). New episodes for the foreseeable future! That's a weird thought.
I don't want to spoil anything for you, so I'll stop yammering now. ;) I should probably do a post at some point to smoke the Mentalist fans on my flist out of hiding - so many theories!
Rizzoli & Isles is a fun show! I sort of lost interest in it a while back, but I wouldn't mind a rewatch now - I just remember loving the new dynamic involved in a procedural featuring two women as the main characters (and being impressed that their friendship was portrayed as the most important relationship on the show). More of that, please, TV.

Date: Feb. 10th, 2012 08:53 (UTC)Seven seasons? Wow. I'm glad I decided to start watching now, and not in a year or two! ^^;
Oh, yeah, that's a good idea! I'd love to comment on that kind of post. Knowing myself I'll be caught up with the series in a week or two anyway.
Hm, I think I'll have a look. I like to have TV series in which I'm not too emotionally involved, so as to relax a bit from time to time, you know? And, yes, I agree, more of that would DEFINITELY be good.
