Yeah, exactly. As I said, I like Jane's character, but globally, it looks like every police procedural is about that kind of character and I find it rather tiresome. I'd honestly be even more interested if some of those were about someone else than a white man. (Actually, that's giving me some good writing ideas... Hmm. I'll have to take notes.) The Mentalist is a really good show, but with strong writing like that, it's a real shame that they didn't go with an at least slightly more daring premise. Ah, well, that's US television for you.
Overall, I really, really like Jane as a character. I'm almost at the end of the first season (I only have the season finale left to watch! Eek.) and the two character who stand out most for me are Jane and Cho (I love Cho's Mad Interrogation Skillz, yo.) Jane especially has that really warm and smooth exterior which hints all the more at really scary and cold hidden depths. I can't wait to see how this develops, honestly. I'm also glad that they don't always focus on serial-killer-type murders, which was what I feared when I started watching ^^;
*checks out Rizolli & Isles* Oooh, a show with a coroner who helps with investigations! I might like that, I think... I have a soft spot for coroners. I'll probably have a look then, there's a good chance that I might like it ^^
